Some email clients allow you to call an external editor or wordprocessor to write messages.

Outlook can be set to use MS Word.

It would be nice to be able to set Thunderbird to (say) Open or Star Office.

    Is this possible?

Are you sure you're not talking about Thunderbird?

Or, are you asking about such things as composing the BBS message you just posted? I don't know of a direct way to do it, but you can always write what you want in an external program, then copy it and paste it into the BBS composition window.

    Hi Labarum,

Not to worry ... I have "Senior Moments" all the time! :D

I don't know any way of using an external "editor" with Tbird, other than by using the copy and paste method. Are you using HTML composition in Tbird? If not, it gives you FAR more options than plain text.

What are your reasons for wanting to use an external program to compose your messages? The only one I can think of is wanting to save them in other than email format.

    Spell as you type!

I only ever send plain text, and will only read in another format if I have no option.

I routinely use Mulberry as an email client which I love and hate at the same time, but I still have a hankering after Mozilla/Tbird

    Hi Labarum,

I just did a little checking in the Tbird forums, and found a link to External Editor, an extension that will allow you to use an external program to compose your messages.

In-Line SpellChecker won't correct your spelling, but it underlines misspelled words as you type.

    HTH.

    Labarum ...

More info about extensions. Unfortunately, the default extensions pages for both Firefox and Thunderbird are sadly lacking in content.

The Extensions Mirror site, on the other hand, is a very comprehensive portal for news and information about Firefox/Tbird. Its Firefox Extensions and Thunderbird Extensions pages have a wealth of stuff to look through.

    Enjoy!
