Has anyone ever used a 95 watt inverter to operate a laptop from a cigarette lighter in a car? It provides 85 watts continuous, converting the DC car voltage (12volts) to 120 volt AC. I purchased a GPS system that plugs into a USB port on the laptop.

Thats what power Inverters are all about. I have two for my mobile setup - one under the front seat that powers my laptop and one in the back to power a printer which is connected to the laptop via Bluetooth. Also have a Bluetooth GPS reciever and a WAN card so I've got Internet capabilities just about anywhere.

Just bought one for my son's laptop at Radio Shack. They suggested the 150 watt version. They told me that the lower ones did not have enough power for the laptops. It was only $40.

The original transformer for my Laptop, Presario 2570US, is a 90W adapter and it is not likely that it is running at maximum power, ever, a built in safety factor.
I would think that a 95W inverter would be OK don't you think? I also have a 225W inverter - both the 95 and 225 came as a bundle from WOOT some time ago.

It probably will work. I just went with what they recommended. I just looked at their web site and the 75W one that they sell says it will work for laptops also.

I have a 350w inverter I use in my truck to plug my laptop ac power supply into. Works like a charm. Most laptop ac power supplies operate between 65 & 95 watts. A 95w inverter is ample to handle any laptop and above 95w gives you capabilities to supply power to other devices at the same time.
