I recently bought a used notebook with windows XP home ed. installed. It is an excellent computer but It came with a problem or two. Function is fine. The previous owner wrote a lot of e'mail. 455MB in OE & 255MB in Outlook. Under "C:\documents & settings there are a number of folders for users, one of which is named for the previous owner and contains approx. 515MB of unknown (to me) "application data" labeled local settings\ "identities "\EBF538E1-8308-4BC0-8F15-2B7CE39897AE. This last link in a long chain has itself 475 MB of the 590MB or so that are under discussion. The question is; How do I get rid of it? And the other misc identity stuff that Microsoft refuses to let us simply delete (any or all of the once needed, now obsolete stuff).

    Hello Ed,
    welcome to the Windows BBS ...... :) ...... !

This is the only "user created" account and the only one that You should get rid of. Leave all other "system created" accounts alone.

Create a new account in Your own name and make sure to make Yourself an administrator. Restart the computer and log in on Your new account.

If that was successful, delete the previous owners account and delete the previous owners folder in C:\Documents and Settings
If asked if You want to transfer anything, the answer is NO, unless You want to.

I am myself a pro user so maybe You should wait for confirmation from a home user!

Hello Christer, thanks for the reply. Something more is required. I now have an account set up with administrator privliges. Windows will not allow me to delete this system file. It informs me that windows needs it. Any other ideas?
