The user profile on several boxes is getting large +150 meg

    Is this normal ?
Can the file size be reduced ?
Would I notice any benefit if it can be reduced ?
Am I being too concerned ?

    Thanks

If you are talking about the user's folder under Documents and Settings, I wouldn't worry about some that size.

I just checked on my machine at home and my user folder is around 1Gb. I probably need to whack a few things out of it to never-never land but things are running fine.

By contrast, my Administrator folder is around 17Mb.

I don't think were talking about the same thing.

    document and settings\donmunyak\ ... size is 500mb

    in contrast...
    right click my computer
    select properties
    select user profile tab
    pmg\donmunyak ... size is 109981 KB

We have several other computers in service longer than mine with user profile file size much larger than mine

    Hi 24jedi...
There are several reasons that can cause your profile to grow. Many programs use the "User profile" to store user data such as Outlook and Outlook express. Other programs will use your profile for temp space such as web browser file caches

    - Is this normal? --> Sure
    - Can the file size be reduced? --> Sure...Cleanup files and directories on Desktop, Clean out Temporary Interent Files, Empty Recycle Bin
    - Would I notice any benefit if it can be reduced? --> Sure if you have no free disk space on your hard driveotherwise I would leave my profile alone
    - Am I being too concerned? --> Maybe just a little :) My profile is over 300 MB and I'm not concern. As a matter of fact I just took a look at it when I read your post for the first time since I reloaded my PC a few months back

Following on from what dobar has suggested.
If we're talking about the same place? C:\Documents and Settings\user login\Local Settings, then delete all that is allowed to be deleted from the Temp folder in local settings, as well as the History and Temporary Internet Files. History and internet files of course are usually managed from IE tools menu, and the Temp files size may need reigning in from the default install size, which could easily be hundreds of megabytes. I set mine and any machine I tweak to 20Mb. More than enough.

150+Mb is not unusual when you take into consideration the size of all the folders. The users desktop folder as an example can be large if folders and files are stored directly on the desktop.
Then there's the Application Data folder...
