    Hi friends

In a WorkGroup using xpwin os, a certain folder 'S_Folder' in one of the PC1, through the 'Sharing' & 'Security' tabs, is set to allow 'Everyone' full control. In this way i presume that users within the WorkGroup can see S_Folder and access it. It was NOT the case:

It still require a user name & password registered with the PC1 to access S_Folder.

The solution can certainly be to set up a new NewUser with password in PC1 that WorkGroup users is allow to use to access S_Folder.

    Questions:
    1) Why is 'Everyone' not really everyone in the WorkGroup that can access S_Folder in PC1 without password check?
    2) Is there another registered Group eg Guests or another way to allow access to the S_Folder in PC1 to allow any user in WorkGroup to access without password?

    THANKS in anticipation.

In XP Home Everyone can have access without a password, but in XP Pro, with Simple File Sharing disabled, passwords will be required, and you must assign a new share to that folder.

    Thanks Tony

So it is the final word: Any access to new shared folder to PC with XPWin Prof with Simple Sharing off, will require a registered user and password with the PC irrespective of what type of user. There is no two ways about it. :D

Yes. XP Pro has built in shares, but they are shared for Administrator use only, i.e. current logged in Admim, and are not accessible on the LAN unless those dirs are made as new shares and Objects (users) are assigned to them.
