    I recently bought a new custom built computer (specs in my profile). In the control panel/user accounts, there are 3 accounts; Peter (thats me), guest and Aspnet. Does anyone know what the last one is and whether it is safe for me to delete it. It is described as a limited account, password protected.
    I had occasion to use Start/Run/Control passwords2, and the accounts are described as Administrator, Aspnet Machine A..., and User1 (which is me).
    Apart from my query about Aspnet, can anyone explain why I have a separate Administrator account (all the computerss Ive ever had show this account) and where User1 appears can I change this say to 'Peter'.
    I realize this is a trivial query, but if anyone has the time to consider this I would be obliged.
    Thank you.

    Hi cozzielex.

    You can read here on mvps about your aspnet account.

    As far as Administrator accounts go you need at least one, the idea (I guess) is you Peter create a limited account for day to day use and only login as Admin when you have to.

    EDIT: You'll probably find that Admin account has no password. A small suggestion here... make one ;)

    2nd EDIT: AARGH

    I missed your 3rd question... How to change your username.

    7. Read Airie's thread and perhaps you'll know how annoying single paragraph posts can be. ;)

    thanks for your post Wildfire that was very helpful. I followed you advice re changing my name in "user accounts" through the control panel, but when I go to "user accounts" via start/run/control passwords2 it still shows me as User1. Do you know why that is?
    Thanks for your time.

    I'm suprised it showed you anything to be honest ;)

    Peter,

    I'm not the spelling police but when posting instructions that are to be typed into a computer you should make sure they are error free.

    I assume you meant start->run control userpasswords2

    OK I don't advise this but I have done it without any ill effects. The usual disclaimers apply, have complete backups and follow the instructions at your own risk.

    Start->Run control userpasswords2
    select the User1 account
    click the Properties Button
    Change your username there and ok your way out.
    Shutdown and restart.

    You may want to create a new administrator user before doing this just in case you get locked out.

    Thanks for your response Wildfire. Sorry, I'm quite new to the format of computer terminology, I'll get the hang of it. I've noted your advice and since it's such a trivial I won't risk getting locked out. Thanks anyway, I will mark this thread as solved.

    No problem,

    It should be OK but as you said why take a risk over something so trivial?

    Take care.
