    Hello,
I am having another probelm with my computer after I log on to it. If I go into Control Panel then User Accounts, I click on the User Account link and nothing happens. :( I have booted into safe mode and tried it again and that didn't work either. I have tried all the User Account links in the OS and still the User Account Window showing the accounts doesn't show up.

I would greatly appreciate any help on how to resolve this issue. Thanks! :)

    Are you in a Domain?
    Are you the local Administrator?
What happens if you: Start, Run, control nusrmgr.cpl

Hello Bill, My computer is Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 and I am not on a network or domain and I am the local Administrator. Like I said before the user account link in control panel doesn't work but I will try that run command that you posted and see if I can get into user accounts. :)

    Hello everyone,
I tried that run command for User Accounts and it didn't work :( I have tried all the User Account links in the OS and none of them work. I can't change my picture, change my password, delete any accounts or create any new accounts because I can't get into User Accounts.

Any further help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. :)

It would help if you stated exactly what happens when you try. Nothing? An error message? XP restarts?

Reset permissions, reboot and test again:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;313222

    Then try:

    Start button, Run, control userpasswords2

    What happens?
Note: When you "Run" control either the command is exactly right or nothing happens.

    Hello Bill,
I used the run command that you told me and it worked and I was able to reset the administrator passord. I then logged in as the Admin and I was able to get into user accounts. :) So I logged off and I went into my account, but when I tried to go into User accounts in the control panel nothing happens. I click on the link multiple times but nothing happens. :( So the bottom line is that I am able to access User Accounts from the Admin account only. None of the other User Accounts can access it. I really am baffled on why this is occuring.

    Hi again Bill,
I greatly appreciate all of the advice you are giving me. :) It turns out that my moms computer is having the same problem as mine lol. Are you sure resetting the security settings will fix the problem? I just hope my computer doesn't get worse because of resetting my security settings to there defaults lol. Anyway, I am still baffled on why the User Account link doesn't respond when I click on it but I can access the User Account through the Admin account.

Why would re-setting your computer to its default permissions state make your problem worse?

If you fear a virus or worm, try at least two on-line Antivirus scans: http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Scanners.htm ; on your Mom's computer do two different on-line antivirus scans. So that between the two affected workstations the equivalent of four scans are done.

I will scan my computer for possible malware, I will reset my security settings to their defaults and I will use the Windows Hive Cleanup Service and see if that will correct that Startup error and the broken User Account link. :)
