I have a Epson S21 printer, suddenly several lines in the
print shows a white coloured line through the entire length
    of the sentence.
Can anyone please, suggest what is causing this malfunction
and what can be done to rectify this.
I have used Epson maintenance software to clean nozzles etc.
Could this be caused by the S21 software now corrupted.
Any help, will be most appreciated.
    Regards.

You could try reinstalling your printer drivers but I would suspect that such a fault is due to a blocked print head. If the cleaning cycle does not improve the printout you may need to replace the ink cartridge. I am assuming your printer ink cartridges have an integral print head, if not, you will have to have it cleaned by a professional.

As a long time user of Epson Photo Stylus printers - 1270, 1290, 2400 & 2880 I totally agree with Mark - you have a blocked nozzle. (Print head is not integral with the cartridge)

I assume the ink cartridge is not empty?

If your Epson behaves the same as the Photo series run 5 sequential nozzle cleans printing a nozzle check after each clean - each cleaning cycle in a sequence is more vigourous than the previous one.

If that fails after repeating a couple of times you will no doubt find nozzle cleaning cartridges available.

You may have to face the fact that the print head has failed - a new printer is likely to be as expensive as replacing the print head.

Thank you both for replies, and agree this maybe the case.
The Epson S21, has four separate cartridges inserted.
I do however not carry out Epson laid down rules that only
their cartridges most be installed, and I am quite certain that,
ignoring them can be very costly.
My S21 is just 18 months old, and use is very little in between
each printing session as a home user.
Third party ink suppliers appear to have two tiers, cheap, moderate
and original. I use the moderate cost cartridge.
    Thanks again for help given.

That's most likely the cause of blocked nozzles - it's a good idea to run a document through it weekly and maybe to leave it switched on, as I do.

I see no issue with the use of good quality third party inks - I have used them for years on my R2400 & R2880 Stylus Photo printers - a continuous inking system by Permajet was/is installed on both.

One final suggestion, if you have an old black cartridge put cleaning fluid in it and run several cleaning cycles (that is assuming the text with the line in was black). As your use is infrequent it is most likely due to ink drying on the print head, cleaning fluid should shift it. You should try printing a test page once in a while to keep the print head clean.
