My Toshiba a215-s4747 will not recognize the name of a Seagate USB external hdd in an enclosure thereby not allowing me to clone the internal hdd with Seagate Disk Wizard. Also, Casper 6.0 rejects the hdd for cloning. The hdd shows up as a generic disk in device manager. Is this a USB or computer problem?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)
I think it is more likely to be a problem with the external drive itself. If you plug it into another computer is it recognised by name?

You could try updating the drive firmware, if available.

No, it's still just a generic drive. I'm wondering if the Ultra ULT40243 drive enclosure could be the culprit. The drive works and is recognized by both computers, just not by name.

If you have access to a desktop you can test that by removing the drive and connecting it as a slave temporarily.

If no desktop available a USB > SATA/PATA adaptor lead would suffice.
