I plugged in a USB adaptor for a micro sd card without the card by mistake. I now get a warning of a failed installation of the device every time I start the computer. It is not a major issue but very annoying.

I have deleted the unknown device from Devices and Printers but it keeps re-appearing.

Any way to lose this permamnetly short of doing a full reset or refresh?

Hi boutells. If you open Device Manager and click View< Show hidden devices, are there any yellow exclamation points or errors shown there?

Presumably it did work as you have marked the thread as Resolved?

I did but it has come back again, I have deleted it again so I'll give it a few days and see what happens. My change it back to unsolved if it continues.

I have moved this back to unsolved. Despite repeatedly uninstalling in Device Manager,it keeps reappearing the next time the computer comes out of Sleep.

    Try this .....

In Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers right click on each entry in turn and select Uninstall.

Then reboot to allow Windows to reinstall these items.
