Does anyone have experience of USB speakers?

The position of my laptop when docked in my office means that I cannot access the standard external audio socket. No room for moving it around either.

If I buy USB speakers, will that mean I do not have to use the audio outlet or is USB just for power and they still use that socket with a separate connection ?

    Thanks

From shopping around looking at these speakers it looks like the USB connection is the only one needed.

That's what it looks like when I did a search, but I couldn't work out how the sound gets from card to usb slot so I wasn't sure.

Pretty much every pc has built in sound now, so maybe there is an internal link. I was hoping to find someone who had bought some and knew for sure, I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra for good sound - I have a sony Vaio and the sound quality from the internal speakers is pants. I could sing better and I can't sing.
