My Computer locks up when I plug in a USB memory stick or generic Ipod MP3 player. As soon as I disconnect the memory stick or MP3 player my computer unfreezes again. I am using Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3. This trouble started after I tried to install a U3 memory stick or I used a friend's Toshiba memory stick, I am uncertain which of the two might have caused this problem. Any suggestions from the expert gurus please.

    Three approaches .....

    1. Uninstall the US3 software if you find it in Add/Remove Programs - test

    2. Device Manager > USB Serial Bus Controllers - uninstall/remove all USB controllers and root hubs - reboot and test. Windows will detect the controlers, etc and re-install.

    3. System Restore to a point prior to the problem arising.
