Whenever I hook a USB 2 device to my computer, I get a message about it working better if I hook it to a USB high speed port. I can then view the high speed ones(in bold print) and the 1.1 ones in normal print. How does one identify which is the high speed and which are the low speed ones? My computer has about 7 ports, but I have no clue about which are 2.0 and which are 1.1. I assumed that USB speed was a function of the motherboard chip-and that all USB ports were the same on the same board.

It's a matter or trial and error unless you have a motherboard manual which may indicate which are which. Physically the ports look the same and some older boards have both USB1 & USB2 and 2 USB controllers. Those on the back of the case are hardwired to the board and are more likely to be USB2 whereas those on the front are softwired and may only be USB1

Don't think there is a definitive answer here :)

Thanks Pete, I guess I'll just "poke" around, though it's really not a frequent issue. My motherboard is an ASUS A8Ne, and I do have the manual that came with it. Thanks again.
