    I have just recently upgraded my motherboard and CPU to P4 2.4Gh Gigabyte GA-8PE800 PRO which has an Intel chipset.
    When I plug my mouse into the PS2 port (using an adaptor) everything works ok. When I plug it into a USB port windows does not detect it unless I firstly change the bios settings (in Integrated Peripherals) to USB MOUSE SUPPORT ENABLED.
    The problem is when I set it then during boot the bios displays the following message -
    EMM386 not installed - unable to set page frame base address press any key to continue.
    The PC then continues to boot up and Windows starts and everythings appears to work ok.
    Why do I get the EMM386 not installed - unable to set page frame base address
    I cannot see any other settings in the bios to set but maybe one of the learned people who read these forums will know.
    Thanks
    John

    #1 did you install any required Motherboad Drivers ?

    I had the same problem when moving a mouse from USB to PS2 and back.

    Do yourself a hugh favor.

    Get an El Cheapo Mouse and plug it into PS2. Then it will be available when in DOS or re-installing the OS.

    Completely UN-INSTALL the USB Mouse.

    Follow the instructions for the USB and re-install it and leave it there.

    I would agree with BillyBob.
    It strikes me odd a USB mouse needing Expanded Memory support.
    However if you want it loaded, edit C:\Config.Sys to be like this, assuming this is a Win9x OS.
    Device=C:\Windows\Himem.Sys
    Device=C:\Windows\Emm386.Exe Ram
    Dos=High,Umb

    That error is from a DOS program.

    It you have anything other than ME or XP follow the suggestions provided by markp62.

    I am getting the same error witn XP. But I very seldom run that that DOS program ( I do not like it anyway ) so I will just get rid of the program.
