In winxp, I have to uninstall and reinstall the human interface device for my joystick (sidewinder) to make it work. Device manager says it can't use it because there's a previous driver in memory. Any help so I don't have to do this every time I turn on the comp??

Try booting into safe mode. I've had old drivers show in device manager there an was able to uninstall them (right click | uninstall). Unstall all of your drivers related to that type of device and then reinstall your joystick.

I uninstalled the driver in safe mode. Then I reinstalled in safe mode. When I reboot the computer it displays that the driver is already in memory so it doesn't work.

I found out why. The sidewinder joystick is only good with USB 1.1 and I had it plugged into a USB 2.0 card. I made this change and use after bootup is no problem.
