I have just added a new USB hub extension. It states not to plug in anything using over 500 ma. I would like to plug in two scanners (a film scanner and a flat bed scanner) which is why I purchased the item. Both scanner nameplates state total current as over 500 ma.

My question: Is this total current draw (both drive motors and whatever else)? Would anyone know the current draw thru the USB cords, particularly can one assume it is very low current, below 500 ma?

As long as the scanners have their own power supply (i.e. NOT self-powered from the USB sockets) you should have no problems whatsoever , as you say the actual current drain from the USB signal is v. small. I don't think I've ever seen a scanner powered direct from the USB socket so I assume that yours are powered from the mains via 2 adaptors ?.

Thanx for the fast response. Yes, both scanners have their own little black box that plugs into a main 120 volt supply. I can now proceed with a little more confidence - thanks again.
