I'm thinking of getting this USB harddrive for my computer for extra storage for my laptop when I'm at home, for programs I will need to be able to run at home, but not when I'm out :

Will this work like a normal hard drive (be able to put things on it from my computer like a normal one, run and install programs on it, etc)

And how will I format it to ntfs? Will it already be formatted to anything?

When you plug it in, it'll look, feel and taste just like any other drive. If your running Win2k or XP you can go into Disk Management and partition and format away.

You can save yourself a nickel and make your own. Buy a small case - sub $20 and a laptop hard drive and a 40-44 pin connector for the initial formatting on any OS. When you're done, you've got something that is about a half inch thick with a footprint slightly larger than a pack of cigarettes - 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 gigs that fit in a shirt pocket. hehehe .......... been doing them for quite some time.

    ;)
