    Hi,

I expect there is a problem with the drivers for the USB Controller, since Vista should be able to identify the stick by communicating with it.

The USB Controller drivers are part of the motherboard chipset drivers. They will be on the drivers CD that came with the computer. If it has an Intel chipset, look for "INF Updates" at the motherboard/computer manufaturer's website.

You can look in Device Manager and check for any problems, but if there any listed for USB, you could try uninstalling the drivers and see if they are installed correctly when you restart the computer. Otherwise, you will need to install them from the drivers CD or look for updates at the manufacturer's website.

    Hi Bill,

If I was you I would try this. Install the drive, and let Vista go through its driver procedure, then go into diskmgmt.msc and give the drive,(which should have appeared in the diskmgmt window), a drive letter. This letter should be one which is unlikely to be required by Vista in the future, eg 'U'.

Next time you plug it in Vista should recognise it. Worked for me!

    Roger;)
