Original text from closed thread below - new subject:

OK all, try this one! (I'm still reading about the SVCHOST and NETWORK SERVICE problem...)

I just flashed an ECS P4S5A motherboard with the latest BIOS driver, making it a P4S5A2, put a P4C 2.2GHz CPU on it, a 60GB Maxtor drive, 512MB DDR PC2100 memory (floppy, cdrw blah, blah) and went to install XP. ALL went smooth, OS is loaded, motherboard drivers installed (XP didn't pick up SIS audio)
I go to stick in an IntelligentStick (thumbdrive) and BAM! BSOD for split second, computer restarts! I went to System Properties and uncheck automatic restart so I could read the error screen. Rebooted to the "has recovered from serious error..." Stuck in the InteliigentStick again...BAM! BSOD again. "DRIVER_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL... - pointing to USBOHCI.SYS" Looking things up, USB SIS 7001 Controller has IRQ of 11 and so does SIS Audio. And "Change settings" is greyed out. It's starting to do a few different things each device - as far as getting just a little furthur before it errors out. I'm using the rear ports. If I use the headers on themotherboard with an adapter, it almost installs before erroring out.

    What can I do?!

Pete, sorry you didn't feel my subject was meaningful...imagine my frustration on a brand new fresh install of XP only to be greeted with an error straight out of the box... "Ah, come on now..." :)
The subject kinda worked though! I got 70 hits on reads! hehehe!

I forgot to add - I did disable onboard sound and reboot but got the same BSOD error. I'm coming here first before doing another fresh install with it disabled...hoping for a different IRQ then after install introducing audio back and seeing what happens. Good idea? or no?

You probably need the chipset drivers and any other drivers for your motherbaord. Get them from the manufacturer.

I've done that. All from ECS's website and CD.

Joe - the other (and more important) reason for requiring a meaningful topic name is to help out when folks search the archives for a thread dealing with a problem they have.

I don't know what your original title was but something like Help Me or I'm Stuck wouldn't be likely to show up if a person searched for USB issues with XP. This one would.

If everything was working before you flashed the BIOS that may be the problem. Do you need this update for the CPU you mention? If not I would clear the CMOS to reset BIOS defaults, flash to the original version of your BIOS and take it from there.

This thread has some relevance re. this

    Is the XP service pack'd ? (SP1)

USB 2.0 support only works with SP1 applied

Shouldnt BSOD, just not recognise device but anything's possible in the crazy world of MSoft
