    hi all

ok i have a usb 2.0 dvr plug and play device, installation instructions for this device are plug it in and windows will do automatically install it (note the manufacturer doesn't provide drivers at all ). but it doesnt. instead when i plug it in, windows detects the device as a "NET2280 pci usb 2.0 interface controller" anyway i try and install the drivers for this but it hardware wizard fails to find any drivers.

i am certain my pc (dell gx620) is usb 2.0 and have service pack 3 installed and my pc exceeds the minimum specs required for the device to work, secondly i have updated the chipset drivers and bios to the latest ones to no avail.

if some one could tell me why harware wizard detects a usb as a pci device, i would appreciate it and how to remedy this problem.

    thank you

For information, these are the basic system requirements from the manual:
Look in Device Manager under the heading Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Is there a listing with the term "Enhanced "? If not, the "2.0" controller is not installed and the USB system is working as version 1.

windows detects the device as a "NET2280 pci usb 2.0 interface controller"

Did this show up under USB devices? If so, its possible that that would be correct. Does it show up anywhere else in device manager?

What happens when you attempt to use it?

just wanted to update all, i fixed the problem

i contacted manufaturers and they said it was the firmware it had not written properly/missing data. the gave me a flasher file-however luckily they provided some kind of driver(at least i think it was because when i tried to use flasher 1st time round it to couldnt detect the connected device) when iinstalled what i belive was the driver, the flasher recognised the device and windows xp too did and installed the device.

    and everything is working fine.

so if for some reason in the future your usb device is detected wrongly, the problem may lie with a corrupt/bad firmware

thankyou all for your attempts to help
