    Hi everyone, WBBS Newbie here.:)

I have tried the search engine and the only thread I found is a year old, and titled USB device connect/disconnect sound re-occurance
It was resolved, but in review of the resolutions, I am afraid that even though the problem is identical, the solutions do not apply. :(

I find no other forum with which to address it, because I don't know if it is hardware or soft, so let's blame it on Vista (which has become a Sport!)

The issue in short is, for the past week or so I am getting a continuous, (but not synchronized) device connection notice sound. I have reviewed ALL of my Windows and App sound assignments, and this sound is ONLY for a device connection. You all know the sound, when you plug in any USB device you hear it, but it is NOT the same sound as disconnection.

Anyway, the old thread (... pause... eBay outbid notice...) OK, back.. the old thread addresses the issue by clearing the Admin Services of WMP Network Sharing scan. I have these services shut off and disabled. There is discussion on possibly some apps starting in the BG, or trying to start, or Bluetooth connections, etc. However, my system has other sounds for all of these functions, but I checked them anyway. Nada! I thought maybe it was an actual loose USB connection problem, so I disconnected ALL my USB devices. Sound still there. I have a USB mouse so I had to put it back first. I did notice the sound seems to stop when the mouse moves, and is less frequent while I am actively using the mouse or keyboard. If I walk away from it, it starts cycling again, to the point where I have to MUTE my sound altogether, or it becomes like Chinese Water Torture!

I have apps and applets coming and going, so not sure if something downloaded in the past week has caused this, but I keep the machine and registry clean and defragged, and memory empty, except for what is active. I check daily for new apps in the Win CP, and uninstall anything I don't recognize. (Shhh... as long as I keep typing the sound has stopped....)

    Specs:
    Computer: HP-IQ775_PC (Touch Smart)
Win Vista HP Version 6.0.6002, Service Pack 2, Build 6002
    Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-58, 1900 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
    Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4.00GB
RAM available after TSRs loaded: +/- 2200MB
    Page File: 3.4GB
Physical Drives: 6 (2 internal, 4 External) Total Space: 1.5TB
    Space Available: +/-750GB
Not sure what else is relevant to the problem other than a software list, and we don't want to go there!

ANY input will be gratefully accepted (Except 'System Restore', which I reserve for WCS only!)

This is my first post on this board, so please forgive and advise if I am in the wrong forum, or violated any rules.

    Thanks
    FR

You will need to do your best to isolate the cause, otherwise it is just a needle in a haystack.

If it seems to be related to mouse/keyboard/touchpad, I don't hesitate at all to uninstall the software for them (Programs and Features). They will keep working on Windows standard drivers, so you can test it for a while, then install updated software from HP. Maybe investigate the Smart Touch software as well.

Look for any software that would clash in Programs and Features. For example, have you installed software for the mouse and could it clash with the touchpad software?

If you can't get anywhere look at doing a Clean Boot
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
    that should isolate it.
