In a computer with installed USB2 control, can the use of USB2 or 3 be used?
Realise the speed of USB 3 can not be achieved in a USB 2 setup.

Hi BobbyScot, I have USB2 & USB3 ports in my comp and if you have a USB3 thumb drive plugged into the USB3 port - transfer is flash.
Put the USB3 thumb drive into the USB2 - transfer is slower (USB2 speed).
They (USB3 drives) are backward compatible. If I put USB2 thumb drive into USB3 port - transfer is at USB2 speed.
Hope that sets your mind at rest. Neil.
FWIW USB3 drives are dearer (at the moment).

Gentlemen, thank you for your observation, appreciated. I received 3x USB3 64GB memory sticks as a present. So checked before using them. When I change my old computer for a newer model, these USB 3 will come into their own. I do have at the moment a USB 4x way card inserted into the present mother board. I notice that MyMemory at present sell USB 3 Integral 64GB memory sticks at £24.

Look into the port...the physical connector port. It is coloured (colored) blue for USB 3 connectors.
