If you made a clean install did you install the motherboard chipset drivers?

In Device Manager under USB is there an Enhanced USB controller?

mine is intel p4 bought in 2005. yes i installed all drivers using the driver cd. and in device manager under usb there three usb host controllers and 3 usb root hub written then there is other heading called other devices under which is written usb controller but the icon for it is question mark.

my friend told that mine is mostly only usb1.1 but i wasnt seeing this msg before.

Which suggests that may be the enhanced (USB 2) controller that you are missing.

I suggest you look on the mobo manufacturer's website for updated chipset drivers.
