I am helping a local non-profit organization to upgrade their computer. I piked up a Micron Clientpro PIII @ 500Mhz with 2 usb 1.1 ports running Win98SE, now they also want a scanner but all the new USB scanners seem to be USB 2.0. As I understand the 1.1 & 2.0 stuff then the 2.0 will be backwards compatible with the 1.1 so the USB 2.0 scanner should work with USB 1.1 PC.
First am I correct in the new scanner working with old computer?
Or should I consider putting in a USB 2.0 card? They can't spend alot of money (or waste it) so I want everything to go smooth. Also if anyone has any certain brand/model scanner you like please suggest it.

    Thanks for any help

USB 2.0 devices are backwards compatible. Although there's never any guarantees when it comes to computers the scanner should work just fine for you. If it were to give you problems you could always buy the card. Probably only cost you $20 or so. They may want to get one even if it works. The difference in speed is a lot.

Thanks Zander, I guess the only real way to know is to try. It will be a few more weeks before they want everything together and up and running so I have time to shop around I just want to make a good choice.
