I have posted twice concerning the failure of my Client PC to load certain URLs. The many things I did to repair this with suggestions from the Manuf and from the nice people on this forum failed. By chance I found on www.speedguide.net a TCP Optimizer Program for download.

Having all other things fail, I tried it. SUCCESS !!!! Don't know what it changed but do know it made some Registry changes that must have worked.

To: Abraxas, Carameah, Daizy, Miz, Newt, and others I may have forgotten, thank you very much for your time to this "old F***!:D :D

Mudd - how old are you anyway? I'm pushing hard toward 60 myself.

Sir, I'm pushing the big 70. Not that all old people are thin brained like me, but what I have done the past week or so has really taken a toll. I'm just learning how to do the small things and up comes something like the problem I had.

Grouch insisted I take a hobby to get me out of her hair last Jan. So she bought the two of us a PC. We don't know s*** about PCs and especially Networking. Based on that, maybe you can see the problem I faced.

Well - you've landed in the right place. The advice is freely given and free.

One thing I really like about this whole internet thing is the fact that whatever your hobby, you can probably find a discussion group that deals with it.

I fish. A lot. Catfish and carp and the occasional bass. Have found excellent sites for all of them. Have even met a few folks thru these things. I'm now up to 4 Brits who have stopped by and fished with me. Great fun and no way I'd ever have met them without the net. One guy came for a week just to fish. And brother, fish we did. It was so totally different than conditions where he lives that he had a great time doing and I had even more fun showing.

Also, I have learned more about some of the finer points of carping and catting in a couple years on here than in my entire lifetime. Got a question - someone else has probably "been there and done that" and can give you an answer.

I'm certainly glad you have solved the problem, and hope it is a permanent fix. But don't you feel just the slightest bit disappointed that the solution was so undramatic? After all that work, the solution should have had the good grace as to be just as convoluted as the process you followed to find it, don't you think?

    Glad you're all set
    :)

Both you guys are great. Wish I knew you both better. I do hope the next problem I have is on the simple side.

The fishing sounds great. Don't have much opportunity here in West Texas. If one like to Dune Buggy, there are some great sand hills near by.

Abaraxas - You said it better than I could. We can now (Grouch and I) be more civil to one another because she has to stay in her "pen" as her PC now runs well.

Again Thanks, good days to you both.

Well, Mudd, I had a brief encounter with your previous problem today. I came to this forum and there was no "Post Reply" button at the bottom of the posts.
I had installed TweakMaster (has options like the TCP/IP Optimizer) and fooled with my settings so I thought it may have been a problem similar to yours.
It turned out a program called "AdsOff" had identified the button as an ad, and, strangely, it would not let me see those buttons even when the program was not running. Returning all to default solved the problem.
    Whew!!

At least you have the knowledge to "know" what your problem is, and also the same for a cure. I envy people that have the PC know how.

I may enrol in an evening PC Course at the Jr College in the city near here. I was talking to some people about it and laughed that I would probably be the oldest guy there. No such luck the people said. There is a Grandma in her middle 70s that has enrolled.

I sure would like to know a little more. I know it takes either a lot of education or many years of experience to get to the heart of PCs, but a little knowledge wouldn't hurt old guys, would it?

Awwww Mudd! That's fabulous news! Congratulations. I'm thinking you learned much more than you even realize at the moment, on the search for the cure. I admire your tanacity and staying power for finding a fix, rather than throwing in the towel. Good work dear man. We're so glad to have you here. :)

I am very pleased to be a member of such a fine group. I have read many of the posts and can see the patience, understanding, and willingness to help. This is a fine group and I'm very fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of it.

I'll be reading all of your posts and remembering you folks.

    Be happy.

I agree with Daizy. You may be far too humble. The way you went about solving your problem, the clarity with which you were able to tell us about it, and, yes, even the fumbling in the dark that we all do, shows you are probably already ahead of people who take introductory computer courses.
Nothing against education, but you may learn just as much from a practical point of view by just spending your time in the forums or researching things that catch your eye.

Though I've taken computer classes, nothing taught me more than ruining my own computer and spending many, many days fixing it! And then the other people started bringing theirs, like the sick to Lourdes.

Best of luck to you in any case.

I, like the other, am glad to hear you got the problem solved. Getting that first major Windows mess cleaned up is not only a great feeling...but the first step in your way to Official Geekhood!

Hey, whadda' ya' mean "remembering you folks "? We're all going to be here for a long, long time because there are more than two things certain in life. The third is "There will be a Windows problem you cannot solve without help." ;)

And thank you Miz. You are one of the "good people" I mentioned earlier.
