I have Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6 installed on my computer. Is there any way that I could type a general description of a thing in the URL box without typing a dot com and get a web address list of those thing? For example can I just type "automobile manufacturers" in the URL box? Thank you.

Yes you can! Why haven't you done this already to see what would happen?.....

The results will be a list of hits with those keyword filters being displayed in your default search engine. You will have to hunt and peck from those.

There's so many ways to customize search, you may want to open up IE's help file [upper toolbar menu] and on the search tab and in the word type_in_line, type search. Browse through the topics at your leisure.

Have you tried the Google Toolbar? Try it you may like it:

    http://www.google.com/options/

I'm specifically speaking about the IE plug-in google bar:
    http://toolbar.google.com/

NOTE*You will have to customize the options to pare down on some of the bloat but once you get only the icons you need on the bar, it's a Keeper.
