My niece, Casey’s computer is doing something strange. When she boots it up, the DOS data is displayed correctly, but the windows display comes it is up upside down. This happened a while back after a power outage. She did a System Restore to correct it but that isn’t working this time. Does anyone have any idea what is happening?

    Thanks

Try uninstalling the video card and drivers and re-installing.

There was a thread on this a while back, but, regrettably, I can't find it.

You might have a look in the display properties. Click the settings tab and then advanced. Then have a look around for a setting to turn things upside down, flip horizontal etc. I know cards with Nvidia chips have this capability.

I finally had her turn her monitor upside down and fixed the problem, hahaha

NOT, all the bytes and trons might spill out!

1024x768 is the only setting that is bad. When I get up to NC in the spring I will fix it but for now 800x600 will have to do.

Thanks to all for your help.

    Ron,
    when you say
do you mean that setting is still upside-down, or that it's the right way up but incorrect in other respects (width, height etc.)

I discovered - only recently - that my monitor (Compaq1024) "remembers" quite a few settings in NVR (or sim.) independently of the base unit / video adaptor / Windows altogether. There's a "reset" button on the monitor - but that only resets the particular display mode which is in use when the button is pressed. This proved quite confusing! - even after I'd reset the monitor, 640x480 was still unusable. (I'd lost "safe mode" as well). But, I'd been using 800x600 when I pressed the button... so it had only reset the settings for 800x600. Finally I tumbled to the need to reset, and then set up, the individual modes one by one.

I mention it because the symptoms I was getting could quite easily have been attributed to the display card / drivers etc... but as it turned out they were down to the monitor itself.
    best wishes, HJ
(glad you didn't let the trons fall out)
