My Control Panel/Power Management/UPS shows no UPS altho I do have one and the computer is plugged into it.

    Under Manufacturer it says none
and below it says the UPS is currently stopped

I checked the Device Manager but there is no listing there for a UPS.

The UPS stuff in Windows is to accomodate a UPS which comes with software that will shut your computer down correctly when there's a power outage and the UPS is providing the power.

In order for it to work, you have to:
    1. Have a UPS with that feature
    2. Have installed the software that came with the UPS
    3. Have the computer hooked up via the supplied cable (serial port, USB, whatever it came with) to the corresponding port on the UPS.
