    I have version 10, build 10240 (32 bit).

MS has been trying to apply updates (cumulative and build 10586 for
several weeks now and it always fails with either ox80240ffff or 0xc1900107
error code. Then it says will try again later.

These 2 codes are not very helpful so far (still looking).
Anyway downloaded latest version onto a usb (verified as good).

Trying to run setup from the usb, setup always fails to start and tells me to
reboot and try again. This always results in the same failure.

What's the trick in updating from version 10, build 10240 to version 10,
    build 10586?

Anyone got this to work yet?

    Thanks,

Did you google the error codes and see all the articles?

That should be a zero as the first letter in the first code.

Hi clif, did you use the MCT (Microsoft Creation Tool) when you downloaded the 10586 build ISO?
I have the 11082 build 64bit W10 Pro installed through the Insider program and it seems to be running OK. Neil.

You should record your product key first before you try a clean install from dvd or usb because it is not the same as upgrading or resetting. I prefer a dvd cause when you burn the iso to it, it will verify the files burned correctly.

"Setup could not start properly, reboot and try again "!

Can Not run setup from within your windows. Must be on dvd or usb. Upgrade will not ask for key.

Have you tried a re-boot as opposed to a Restart?
Quite often with W10 a Restart or Re-boot will get things going.
I have always adopted a policy of leaving the comp/notebook/smart phone to do it's Upgrade/updates without touching or trying to use it until the process is finished.
Seems to work for me as I've rarely had problems.
Just yesterday, an upgrade for my Samsung S4 Galaxy was offered and I set it going. I moved the USB cable to comp during the process and caused the update to Lollipop to fail.
I had to make a full disconnection of everything and start again and this time I made sure the cable was supported and did not move during the upgrade.
Worked like a charm and is now on Version 5.0.1 Lollipop.
If your install won't work Clif, try the MCT method with either USB thumb drive or DVD. Neil.

My problem is similar, except 64 bit.

All I am trying to do is update the laptop that has not moved from "Version 10.0 (Build 10240)" to "Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.36)" like my other laptop and the desktop. Each of the suggestions I have received tells how to up date from Windows 7 or 8.1. I have done that. Please keep in mind I am a simple thinking old man who likes to think he can do basic IT work rather well.

    Thanks

Clif and jshaw42, This procedure should work. http://www.windowscentral.com/use-media-creation-tool-update-windows10
There was a problem with 1511 as has been Posted in BBS earlier. The update was withheld by MS and the hiccups were fixed.
MS apologized for the problem and said there would a delay due to demand, so please read the link thoroughly and follow the procedure. You should be able to install without hassles using the MCT method. Neil.

I downloaded the update program, went through all the hoops (long time) and it all came out great. All three PCs are on "Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.36)" now. Thanks to all for putting up with me.

    No Go!

Tried a straight install from windowscentral.com using media creation tool.
    same problem - setup bombed.

Did it again from a bootable DVD, using a clean boot restart, same problem...

About the only thing left is a format then install but got to think about that.
The current version of win10 (10260?) is working fine.

will keep at it, thanks for all the help,

    Hi clif,
    I had build 10240 installed on 23/07/2015 followed by 10525 (19/08/2015) 10532 (01/09/2015) 10547 (19/09/2015) 10565 19/10/2015) 10576 (03/11/2015) 10586 (08/11/2015) 11082 (17/12/2015).
As you can see, I have had no problems with installs. My Insider Program started with Build 9834 and I have had 19 builds installed since then - all trouble free.
I would leave your current build which is working OK and leave it till the next build is offered. Are you set on Updates from more than one place?
PC's on my Local Network? Neil.

    retiredlearner,

Are you set on Updates from more than one place?

no (i have it and a lot of other tattle-tail stuff) turned off.

My main sys is 64 bit and it installed the updated version with no problems.
Backup sys is 32 bit, its the one that wont update. I can wait for next version,
no problem. Just kinda nags at me.

I'm still learning myself and very retired also!

Hi Clif, your System Details show you are running W8.1 64bit.
Why did/are you running W10 32bit? or is this another comp?
Why have updates turned off if you expect it to provide next build upgrade?
Are you running W10 32bit in VM? Are you using Windows Defender and are you getting Defender patches up to date? Neil.
