Is upgrading from W98 first edition to ME not a good idea?

Remember reading somewhere that ME upgrade causes lots of problems, and that it is better to do a clean ME install.

    Any thoughts?

I've installed Win ME as an upgrade on 3 different computers with no problems, but if not retaining data and programs isn't a problem I'd do a clean install.

    Thanks for the info.

Don't know if I'll take the plunge. The owner of the PC wants to upgrade, but it is a 5 year old PC, and have some concerns about obtaining Me drivers for the video, audio and modem cards.

Also, for some reason Dell recommends updating the BIOS, although I'm not quite sure why this would need done to install Me.
