I'm running XP, and I have both Netscape 4.79 and 6.0 installed. I installed 6.0 when I got this new computer, but I was never able to copy my profiles & saved email to 6.0, so I also installed 4.79 so I could access my old email.

If I want to upgrade to 7.0, do I need to uninstall both 4.79 and 6.0? The Netscape webpage says you can just install 7.0 and it will automatically transfer profiles, addresss book, old email & bookmarks to the new 7.0 files. I've also read in these posts that you recommend uninstalling 6.0 first, and doing a clean install. Do I uninstall both versions, and if I don't, which one gets written over?

    Thanks,
    Shelli

    Hi Shelli,

I strongly recommend that you uninstall Netscape 6. It is obsolete, full of bugs, error prone, etc., etc., etc. You definitely would not want to install 7.01 on top of Version 6. If HD space is not a problem, just leave 4.79 on your system, as it runs concurrently with Netscape 7.01 with no problems. You definitely don't want to uninstall 4.79 before installing 7.01. The Netscape 7.01 install will convert the Netscape 4.79 Profiles. To be safe, make a backup copy of your 4.79 Users Folder before doing any uninstalling/installing. Always better to be safe than sorry!

Follow my Clean Install and Create a new Profile guidelines.

Please let us know if you have any questions.
