    Hi there.....

I've been installing XP for the past two days without any success...I tried to install it as an upgrade to Win98...installation goes well until the first automatic restart and then the screen goes blank...nothing's happening about 15-20 minutes...what's the problem?

I tried the full install and boot from the CD-ROM.. I reformat my drive ... XP boots and starts reading and installing some files until the time it says "Starting Windows" then it stops right there again...

I did the Advisor and it reports nothing...so i supposed that my hardware is fine...

Is it the installation disk or something wrong with my hardware, maybe BIOS, or something else?

my pc got 256mb sdram, geforce 2MX video card, onboard sounds, LAN card, 20gb HDD, 50X CD-ROM, 1.44 drive on AMD Duron 900MH with ECS K7VZA board.

    need help.......FAST.....thanks

Remove or disable everything except what's required for loading the OS. Disable Onboard sound and physically remove the LAN card. Start from as bare a machine as possible. Then download the latest drivers for the MB, Video, Sound, LAN card etc and install these one at a time.

BTW your copy of XP may be at fault, particularily if it's a copy (bootleg).

I think Paul may have hit on it.

We have a legit corporate copy of XP-Pro. Allows for multiple installs from the CD since licensing is taken care seperately.

We tried to make a couple of safety copies and test them. Finally had to make 10 copies to get 1 that worked. The others all behaved just as you describe.

Odd too since they were all to the same brand and lot of blanks and from the same burner.
