Hello- I'm running XP Pro and have been using Seamonkey 1.1.19 for a long time because I like a browser with an included mail program like Seamonkey has.
Several times I have attempted to upgrade to Seamonkey 2 and it installed ok,but I was disappointed to lose my bookmarks and I think contact list.
Anyway I removed my new install and reinstalled 1.1.19 and my bookmarks reappeared and I was back to square one.
Also when I tried to send a little test email with Seamonkey 2 a message box said it couldn't be sent.(I apologize for not knowing the specific message.)
So would you please suggest what I could do to remedy my problem here?

( I hope Reg editing isn't needed to fix this because I don't go there.)

Thank you for any advice you can offer.

My personal advice is to tell you to stay with 1.1.19 and forget 2.0 because that is exactly what I have done thus far and will continue until forced to do otherwise.

My dislike of 2.0 is because it does not display the graphics and colors as cleanly as does 1.1.19 and I don't like a few of the setup features.

However, with that said your main problem lies in the fact that 2.0 is a different animal and does not use the same profile setup that 1.1.19 does.

I will suggest you read a web page I have which should explain your problem and then what you do next will be up to you. But, please let us know.

The web page is at: http://www.raysmyth.net/dunce/19sm1920/sm-1920.html

The web page mainly addresses the mail changes but, If you chose to use 2.0 you can copy the address book and other stuff from the 1.1.19 profile to the new 2.0 profile

    My 2 cents, Ray

SM1.1.19 was released on March 16, 2010, and it has not been maintained. One should read this from the Seamonkey project, and draw one's conclusion. Since SM2.0 came up there have been 13 security/stability upgrades. SM2.0 parallels the Firefox browser, and, for this reason it requires a different type of profile.
I found this in the mozillazine site, but I can't verify it, since I started by keeping both 1.x and 2.x, but it sounds right.
I began by making sure that 2.x installs in a different location from 1.x.
I have never seen any color and display differences between v.1 and 2. The set up is pretty much the same, and there is, always room for improvement, as evidenced by v.2.1 which is at beta test phase.

I realize all web pages display slightly different depending on a User's video card and/or monitor

But, The main difference I see in color display is in the very page my browser loads too which is a personally rigged menu page with links that take me where I usually want to go when on the internet.

The display differences I observe may be evaluated by others at this link:... http://www.raysmyth.net/sm

Perhaps those that do the programing can see what I dislike and/or someone tell me why the difference.

    My 2 Cents, Ray

How am I supposed to see the differences?

Hello Old Chief and Westside. I uninstalled the old browser completely removing the old directory and installed 2.0.13. I can browse, receive mail; have my contact list and bookmarks intact. However when I try to send an email the following box pops up:
    Send Message Error
Sending of message failed. An error occurred sending mail:Unable to authenticate to SMTP server smtp.cogeco.ca. It does not support authentication (SMTP-AUTH) but you have chosen to use authentication.Uncheck "use name and password" for that server or contact your service provider.
I can't find anywhere where I could 'uncheck' as the messge says.I looked under Edit>Preferences and Edit> Mail and Newsgroups account Settings. I can't see anywhere where I could make the change that the message suggests. Please advise as I am stumped.

In Mail, Highlight the Name of the mail account on the left above the Inbox and then on the right side click on "View Setting for this Account" and then on the bottom left at the next window, Highlight "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" and then on the right highlight "Edit.. "

You should have some windows that looks similar to the ones shown here:.. http://www.raysmyth.net/20-set.jpg

Settings depend on your ISP but, Sounds like you understand that part.

    Good Luck, Ray

Hey Ray- I've got to thank you so much! I did just what you said to do and Bingo! All Fixed.
Such a simple solution but it took a smart dude like you to suggest the solution.I'm very grateful.
And thank you for the extensive reference you sent to me after my original enquiry
    Regards,
    Terry
