I'm the last holdout in my family using Internet Explorer. Everyone else has switched to Chrome. I like IE because I can zoom it to 125% making it easier for me to read. I also like the process for downloading files better than Chrome's process. I'm just more comfortable using IE instead of Chrome.

When I open my gmail in IE, I get a message saying I'm using an outdated version and am prompted to switch to Chrome or update IE. I click on the update to IE and it tells me I'm using the highest version of IE I can use with Windows 7. I'm using IE8.

Is this true? Is there some other way to update my IE? I really don't want to switch to Chrome.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I even took the time to test the link after "translating" it from Sweden back to the U.S. ... ... !

So I downloaded the file, but when I tried to open it it says Operating system is not supported. It says I need Windows 7 service pack 1 or higher.

There are prerequisites for installing IE10 but if you install on line (not off line from a downloaded file locally) the updates get downloaded and installed automatically. SP1 however may be a different story. IE10 or not, if you haven't got SP1, you should get it.

If your intention is to install off line, from a downloaded file, you also need the following, in addition to SP1, to be installed prior to installing IE10:

    KB2729094
    KB2670838
    KB2835361

After installing IE10, you need the most recent cumulative update to IE10, currently (september 2013):

    KB2870699
