I am using a HP Pavilion dv6 on an Intel Core 2 duo that was upgraded from Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 to Windows 7 Home Premium. However, when I first logged in, the bluescreen came up and rebooted the computer. I've partially gotten that under control by ending the explorer.exe proccess just as it finishes loading all my other startup programs, then restarting it. Even so, inserting removeable memory mediums causes the computer to crash. So does closing the lid of the laptop and moving it. In an earlier case, when Microsoft Outlook loaded with Windows Live Connector and Funambol plugins loaded and the funambol application uninstalled, the computer crashed. I remedied that by reinstalling funambol. What's going on? Do I need to reinstall the Windows shell or is something else going on?

I would do a clean install of Windows 7 instead of an upgrade.

    Reason and Fix

The reason that the Windows BlueScreen comes up is hardware malfunction. I've managed to trace the BlueScreen to my SD Card reader. The reason the reader became unstable is because during the upgrade to Win 7, I left an SD card in the reader. This somehow corrupted the hardware. To fix it, I simply uninstalled the hardware and kept the software. The next time I loaded an SD Card, the computer stayed on.

So basically, if you left any hardware plugged in during the upgrade from Win Vista to Win 7, that hardware will cause your computer to crash. To fix the issue, find the device in Device manager and uninstall it.
