Upgrade IE 4.0 to newer version

Have a machine that is running Win95 and I am trying to upgrade IE to 5.5. Downloaded the setup program, but when I click on it to install, get an error telling me that I need the version of IE that I am trying to install, already loaded. Is that machine stuck at 4.0?

This may not be the most elegant solution but I've always kept a copy of one of the free AOL cd's laying around the office for just this reason.

If you install the AOL software, it will automatically install the most recent version of Internet Explorer that your machine can handle. Its got most of the previous versions on the disk.

Of course, it also installs the newest version of AOL that your machine can handle but I simply go back later and uninstall the AOL parts...

meangrn1800--Maybe you should install v5.0 first and then try to move to 5.5.
P.S. Where did you get the setup for v5.5? MS no longer offers it. It can be had here (along with all older versions of IE)
