I am attempting to upgrade from Windows Me to XP Profesional, but get an error message 2 mins into the upgrade
error occured copying ndisuio.sys to C:\$WIN_NT$.~LS\I386\ndisuio.sys file does not exist
It then gives me the option to retry, skip, or exit
    Retry has no effect
    Can anyone let me know....
If I skip this will it have a major effect? or how can I recover the file ?

Gojo - if you have good backup copies of your personal files, I'd strongly suggest you boot from the XP install CD and get rid of ME with a format then do a clean install of XP.

Not sure why but the one upgrade that seems to often cause problems that never really go away is ME to anything.

I know it's a major pain to have to start from the beginning but my guess is that you'll save yourself grief later on if you do it that way.

    Thanks for the quick response
I think I will take your advice with a clean install
Apart from my personal files, ie favorites etc is there anything else you recommend I backup before I start?

    Ok idiots guide needed
How do I do a clean install
If I run the install from the same xp disk I get the same error if I skip it I get a couple of errors similar with .dll files after skipping them all It gives me the option of installing it on the partition that has the me os on it.
It at no time gave me the option to format an warns against installing 2 os on the same partition which is not what I want anyway.
I have tried booting with the xp and the me disk with no joy.

    Gojo,

WinXP would wipe the partition before installing. There is a step by step guide you can use to help located HERE .

    Its not going well

Started clean install and got to the partition screen where it asked me if I wanted to convert to NTFS which I did
When it returns to the partition screen with the partition now showing to be NTFS
delete, create or install on existing partition
    C create gets no response
D delete won't let me as it contains files required to complete setup
the only option it allows me to do is install on existing partition
this works but is very messy as all my old files are there but dont work

How do I format the partition from here I have tried reinstalling numerous times with the same result ??

Please help a very sick PC.........
