:( Hi guys, and gals. I got the brite idea to print out the message called upgrade report from install disc. Almost enough to drive you to drink. It tells me that, under hardware compatibility issues my HP tape drive subsystem, parallel port controller, standard floppy controller?? and standard SCSI controller does not work w/XP and the next line tells me that I might need additional files. My canoscan scanner was listed so I went to canon and downloaded the file for XP, also listed my HP camera, went to site and was noted that drivers are on XP disk. Were can I get onSpec USB to ATAPI/LS120 Link Port Driver, Shuttle EPAT External ATAPI Driver or QuickClip USB Port Driver (CXUSB1)(also part of universal serial bus controller) Also mentions Connectix TWAIN (32) bit as maybe not working. Tells me that exchange client must be removed and cant find that. Wants me to remove and then reinstall Iomega zip software, McAfee, DirectCD5, Easy CD Creator, Logitech mousware drivers and Web publishing menu.
Now, I would be the first to admit I am not the brightest bulb in the pack, & this might be a pain to attempt to answer. Really!!! would I be better of just throwing the thing in the canal and get a new machine???????? BTW its a Dell 500, 20gig, 357Ram

    Suggestion:

Better, get an spare Hard Disk from some friend or someone, then replace your Hard Disk with this one and do a full install from zero, then install everything and check to see if everything in your hardware works O.K.

From my own experience, I can tell you that you *NEED* one of the latest IOmega S/W, McAfee & LogiTech MouseWare releases, and DEFINITIVELY the *LATEST* EasyCD Creator 5 + the whole bunch of updates, including some 1 or 2 hot-fixes for WinXP that are related to its inherent C.D. recording functions. (Lastly, from the times of EasyCD 4, I was going insane to keep up *IN PROPERLY ORDER* with all the Adapetc / Roxio patches & hot-fixes. By today, I'm more than happy with latest NERO :D)

Better wait for 1 to 2 weeks, and do the experiment with the about-to-be-released Service Pack #1 for XP in your hand.

    Good Luck!

i Have the same HP 5 GB tape, Tom. First of all, you can do a firmware upgrade on it to boost it to 8 GB at the HP site. And then from them you can also get the XP drivers -- I think you have to order them on CD, as they're not available via download.

That's how I got mine, but before I could upgrade it to XP compatible, the **** thing busted. Oh well.

Did you have an internal Iomega or external. They want the iomega unplugged. In my case I would have to pop the hood.

Not sure what you mean by the "iomega." I have an HP 8 GB internal travan tape drive, and all I would have needed was to install the XP drivers.

Do you mean an "IOmega ZIP drive "?

    Short answer: Go ahead.

Well, is recommended when you install a new O.S. (mostly a Micro$oft one) that you unplug everything possible, to rise the posibilities that the O.S. installer do it's job flawlessly.

Many people agreeded that sometimes temporarily removing a "no vital to boot" card (or two, etc.) from the P.C. resolved complications derived from bugs in installer.

By the way (and "proud" as a "Maniac SysAdmin" :D) I never unplugged nothing. In fact, I always tempted to leave everything plugged and turned on, including my "Parallel Port External Zip 250 Drive ", that XP recognized automatically as soon as I installed it. (first Windows EVER that REALLY supports it in a true "Plug'n Play" manner.)

I recommend you just go ahead with the install. ONLY bother disconnecting things if something goes wrong.

    Good Luck !!!
