:( I downloaded the upgrade advisor linked from the BBS and the first question/remark from it was (install the .NET framework) at the risk of being totaly stupid, does this have anything to do with a network, which I do not have? I did a search and didn't find it and was not refered by the advisor. Is installing this file/program and activating it going to mess up my machine? I am not planning to use Vista for a while but would like to know what I do not have that it needs. Machine is running fine at the present.

You can get the .net files from the Windows Update site...Won't hurt a bit to install it.

The .net framework is, to put it simple, a way of programming. If a program is written using it and you want to use that program, you have to have the .net framework installed.

:) Thanks Zander. Checked control panel and I have MS Net Framework ver 1.0 and Hot Fix 1.0 for same. Appreciate the expanation of Framework. If I recall, the site I went to recommended by Steve R Jones advised to remove one or both before trying to activate new Framework. Im quite sure it recommended 1.0 but not sure if have to remove the hotfix. Thanks again:D
