Updating vid drivers

    If I'm just updating the drivers for my ATI card, is it really necessary to uninstall the old ones first? I can understand why you'd have to do this if you're changing cards, but if it's the same card, isn't it OK to just install over the old drivers?

    Not necessarily - best to uninstall the old driver first.

    Don't know for certain re. ATI, but for Matrox the old driver must be uninstalled before the new one is installed.

    When I went to update my ATI Radeon 7500 drivers, got a message from installation program: "Uninstall old drivers first." Figured Mfg. should know, did it, updated, no problems, card works better now.
