I'm noticing that there are now quite a few bookmarks that are no longer valid.

I have about 300. They are well organized into folders and sub-folders, so it is easy to find things. Is there a way to update them to current status without trying to pull up each individual site and delete the bookmarks for those that are "long gone "?

    It is Netscape 4.7.

    Thanks.

    Hi Pat,

There is a feature in the Bookmark Editor that allows you to update all your Bookmarks. It is located here:
Bookmarks | Edit Bookmarks | View | Update Bookmarks

When the "What's New?" dialog box comes up, click the "Start Checking" button. If you want to check all bookmarks, select "All Bookmarks ". If you only want to check the highlighted bookmark(s), select "Selected Bookmarks ".

If a page has changed, Navigator lists it alongside a distinct, accentuated icon.

Sites that have been removed or are temporarily unavailable will be marked with a Question icon.

Sites that have been updated since they were last visited will be marked with a
    Notice icon.

Sites that have not changed at all since they were last visited will be marked with a Standard Bookmark icon.

It may take a few minutes for Netscape to check all the links, so be patient. Click OK to close the dialog box

That's terrific. After all these years, I didn't know that was there.

There were many question marks, but the sites are still available and I use them, but infrequently.

    Thank you so much.

    Westside,

Yes, there is a similar feature in Netscape 7; however, not as complete as Communicator. The user must ask for the notification of change, in each bookmark, rather than being able to highlight a group, or a folder, or even the complete bookmark folder.

    Found in:
    Bookmarks | Manage Bookmarks
    Right click the bookmark
    Select: Properties
    Click on the "Notify" tab
    Select your option
