Updates not recoqnized

Have confirmed recent windows 98se critical update in installation history, yet update notification continues to say I need this update (Direct X runtime). Same with most recent Norton virus definitions; used Intelligent Updater to get definitions (confirmed in System Works antivirus section) yet Norton auto updater continues to attempt download when online. Suggestions? Thanks

 

re: the Norton piece, check what you have now. There is a new def file dated 9/26 (yesterday) but I just ran the intelligent updater and it found a file from the 24th and loaded it. I then took a look at the Manual Update site and found there was a version from 9/26. Only problem unless you have a fast connection is the need to pull down the entire 4Mb file to replace yours. No way I've found to just update from that page.
