I have an Acer Aspire Notebook with built in webcam. I'm running Vista Home Premium which is set to automatically receive and configure updates. Although I do not use the camera alot (being new to all this) have noticed that it has stopped working and Windows is unable to find solution to the problem.

I wondered if this problem has been caused by one (or more) of the automatic updates.

If anyone else has had this problem or can think of a solution would be very grateful

Hello Sarah and welcome to the Board :)

Use System Restore to confirm whether MS Updates caused the problem.

Restore back to the last point prior to the updates.

To access SR, type System Restore into the start button search area and follow the dialog windows.

A word of advice on MS Updates - configure Automatic Updates to Notify before downloading/updating and then manually download/install and do one at a time with a day in between. That way, it's a lot easier to pinpoint a cause.

    Hi Bubs,

You'll probably find that an update has disabled the webcam. If I were you I would visit Acer, and download the webcam driver again. It is supplied by Acer from HERE .
