My laptop has been giving me this message for 3 hours now: "Do not turn off or unplug your computer. It will turn off automatically. Installing update 7 of 8 "

What in the world is this??? I just now turned off the computer and turned it back on, and the notice is no longer there. I hope I haven't harmed anything. Does anyone know what that message was all about and whether I was ok to ignore it?

No doubt you have Windows/Microsoft Update set to download and install updates automatically - these updates are often installed after you give the command to shut down the computer - hence the message you saw.

Preferable not to ignore the message, but you have done no harm. The remaining update will probably install next time you shut down the computer.

    Thank you, PeteC

Thanks, PeteC. Actually, I had it set to notify me before it downloads, which is the reason I was so puzzled. Well, it appears no harm done. Thanks, again.
