update failed

    Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure the Cryptographic Service is running on this computer.

    The explanation at MSKB deals with installing the service pack. This error message is coming up when trying to install security updates.

    Try these steps:

    Register the following files:

    Start > Run:
    regsvr32 licdll.dll
    Press OK.

    Next,
    regsvr32 regwizc.dll
    Press OK.

    Stop the Cryptographic Service.
    Run:
    net stop cryptsvc

    Find the Catroot2 folder in System32 and rename it to "Catroot2old ". (Or, go to Start > Run, and type:
    ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2old).

    Restart the Cryptographic Service.
    Run:
    net start cryptsvc

    Try installation again.
