On my XP SP3 plus critical updated system I have installed http://www.lux-aeterna.com 's Speaking Clock.

It starts with Windows, first placing its display on the screen and an icon in the area adjacent to the normal clock. A short while afterwards it also puts an entry in the TaskBar just as other applications do when I open them manually.
It's unnecessary and I remove it. To do so I right-click on it (minimize), upon which both it and the screen display disappears. I then click on the icon near the system clock to reinstate the display.

It all seems a bit more complicated than it should be. Why doesn't it simply start up and run like other applications without visually shouting about it in the TaskBar?

Have you been through ALL of the option that it has? Stoping it from starting with Windows might help...But it sounds like a pretty normla type of deal or poorly written code.

There's no mention in the options or its help file about start-up.

Hi Syncopator, have you looked in the FAQ section in their web site? If you have a problem that is not shown - ask for help. They say they will answer within 24 hours if you are a Registered purchaser of the Product. Neil.;)
