I have Office 2010. I do not have Power Point 2007. The Windows updater keeps trying to install an update for Power Point 2007, which always fails, so it tries again and again, every time I shut down. How do I convince the Windows updater that I neither want or need that update.

Hi caribsailor. To hide a Windows Update click Start< All Programs< Windows Update. The Windows Update window will open. Then click the link the says what updates you need to install. Then select the PowerPoint 2007 update, right click it and click on Hide Update. Then click on the Check for updates link to have Windows Update check for new updates.

I did that two weeks ago and it didn't work. Since receiving your note, I tried it three more times. It seems to disappear, but it always comes back. When I shut down, it tries to install that update, but it is always "unsuccessful ". So how do I get rid of it???

This site has gotten more user unfriendly. I find it difficult to get back to my particular issue. Now I'm trying to delete this message and can't find a way to do it.

How so? When there is a reply to your post you'll receive an email with the url.

In your User CP all your threads should also be listed.

And NO, you cannot delete your thread. What's the point of that? We share experiences and advice here publicly.

I did that. Three times. It didn't work. The unwanted update keeps coming back.

I have followed Evan Omo's suggestion several times. The unwanted update always comes back. Right now, it seems to be gone. We'll see. Nobody else seems to have any ideas.

So far, the phantom update has not returned, so I have marked the thread "resolved ".
