New laptop. XP Home. Has Spam Blocker, if that means anything.

I noted the Address Book had a number of strange email addresses in it, which I deleted. (I searched past threads; no reference.)

Now, I do not open emails, having set the time to 60 secs, and delete the ones I do not know, and the rest I only open if replying etc.

Where do the strange address come from? Can they come from CC on and email?

I had the some problem on one of my other machines, but lived with it.

    Not desireable now.

    Thanks!

Is it possible they're coming from you replying to emails? OE has a setting to add those that you reply to, to your address book. In OE, click tools>options>send and make sure the line that says automatically put people I reply to..... is unchecked. I believe it's checked by default.

    Zander, thanks will check, but

I now recall that these were from persons I was not familiar with nor corresponded with, if that is the correct word. They seemed like address records from those I deleted, but will look at the options again.

Like I mentioned, it happened on one the other machines, but I began to use Mailwasher and it stopped. These were from deleted emails, even though not "opened. "

    Thanks!

Well, I don't know how they could get in there if you never opened them.

I was thinking maybe they were from trying to unsubscribe from some type of spam email. You know, when you get a spam email there's almost always a link at the bottom that says click here to remove you from this list (or some such thing). If you ever did that in the past the address would get added to address book if that setting I mentioned is checked.

Zander, you are likely correct in

your thinking. It may be Minnesota's water down here in the SE.

I got to thinking about it, and it could be my initial fiddling with the email, as it has not happened since.

It unnerved me at first, and I appreciate your advice and observations.

Only because it's so nippy here in west central MN at this time that all I want to do is hibernate in the house. Affords lots of time for thinking. :D

I see you're from SE MN and you must be a fisherman too? My parents used to live in that part of the state (Chatfield) so I would get down there from time to time and got to spend a bit of time in the trout streams in that part of the state. Great fun! :D

I had never been there until they moved there though. I was really surprised by the scenery there. It was worth the trip down there just for that. Especially in the fall. At least I thought so. :)
