My system freezes randomly with these errors

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\D.

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D.

The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort2, did not respond within the timeout period.

The efforts i took so far :-

    1) I removed the old HDD, bought a new one & installed fresh copy of Win XP
    2) Changed the SATA cables, even swapped
    3) Read almost all the forums(google search) and done everything said there.

Only thing is right now i'm not in a position to buy a new PC. So i tried everything in vain.
Couldn't sleep well as this errors killing me slowly.

Could anybody give a permanent solution to this issue?

My system - Intel P4 3 Ghz, Intel D915GAG MB, 2 GB RAM

Please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions!

It does sound like a problem with the motherboard (connector?). Can you try another connector on your MB?

Did u mean the power connector (from PSU to MB)?

And I request you to be with me till my issue solved. If you can't help me...nobody in the world can....

No, I was thinking of the connector where you connect the cable of the hard disk on the motherboard.

Also, run the hard disk manufacturer's disk diagnostics: SeaTools & see what information it'll give you.

    THANKS
Ran seatools on my old HDD. Results were successful with no errors. After this problem i bought(a week ago) a brand new HDD with a fresh install of XP but of no use.

By the way the connector u mentioned is fixed(non-removable) thing right? Is there any alternate available? Is PSU the culprit? Please do answer me

The problem you outline seems to be more allied to the motherboard itself - it is highly unlikely that the drive electronics would be at fault on 2 drives .....
Hard disks 0 & 1 are the SATA drives which are unrelated to the IDE error - different controllers.

Your motherboard supports 4 SATA drives - have you tried the other 2 connectors? They may/may not have separate controllers.

I've tried changing the connector with my old HDD(error repeated again), but not after i purchased the new HDD. I'll connect both my HDD's to the other 2 connectors and let u know the result in another 24 hrs or at once the error repeats.
Also add this error to the above errors "The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort3, did not respond within the timeout period. "
P.S. My system randomly freezes while during file transfers between(within) disks, while using my 3d software package, playing games i.e whenever my CPU fan speed (makes noise)increases

You may also have an overheating problem - have you de-dusted the case and cleaned all dust bunnies from between the fins of the heat sink?

Check your temps With SIW - Hardware > Sensors and post values here.

It does sound like maybe a mobo issue, cause one of his error messages refers to an IDE controller; I assume his optical drive is IDE controlled.

I think the overheating postulation may be accurate. Now I will leave the rest to the qualified people.

Yes, Arie was referring to the fixed plug receptacles on the motherboard....different boards have different numbers of these-- into which you plug in the end of your SATA cables.

Deep breath, be patient, you are in very good hands with the pundits comprising this community.

I will just say that Diode 1 64*C looks a little high. Check for dust inside the case as Pete suggested.

The HDD errors talk about "ports" which I might investigate further. (IDE I might expect to have something referred to as Port 1 or Port2, but not Port 3.) I haven't heard/seen of IDE "ports" anyway.

If you are going to run out and buy a new computer, I suggest you try backing up your data and reformatting Windows first then doing a fresh installation. Some third party programs can add "virtual drives ", like a virtual CD/DVD drive. They can and do cause problems.

It may be caused by a third party program you have installed.

    Matt

Few hours back i formatted my HDD and installed a fresh WIN XP. After installing the motherboard & Nvidia drivers the problem reoccurred. Didn't even updated the windows online update. Still my XP is with SP2 only. Really got frustrated & waiting for ur kind reply.

Sounds like your motherboard has developed a fault.

I doubt it (would be worth it), but you cold have it tested at least, to know for sure its your MB at fault.

If you installed the nVidia IDE Controller drivers, try uninstalling them, there were problems with them in the past.
