What in the world is this ??

I was just checking on the ~DF files in the C:\Windows\Temp folder and found it. I have NEVER seen it before.

In looking it over It appears ( to me anyway ) to be Scanner related. I do have the HP 3970 Scanner.

    It is listed as _scan_buttons.log

    Easy way to find out.
Delete the file. Scan something and check for the presence of the file again.

Pretty much, ALL programs use a temp folder to write files too. Most programs will clean up after themselves but some don't. Deleting files found in the temp folder is A-OK.

OK. I emptied the Temp folder ( other than a couple of ~DFxxx files which won't delete ) before shutting down last evening.

The file in question was there right after machine startup ( cold ) this AM.

It has also been DAYS since I scanned anything. But I WILL scan something and see what happens.

Through trial and error I have found where files like eud6.htm come from. They seem to be related to printing.

I have found files//C:\Windows\Temp\eudx.htm at the bottom of some ( but not all ) printouts. I am betting ( GUESSING ) that this may be related to printing from the Internet. Alias the item is downloaded to the TEMP folder and then printed. What makes me thing that is because I just looked at a printout and I am 95% sure that it came off of the Internet.

In other words I am on a new page(s) in the Book of Learning. Just when I think I have it all down pretty well THE PAGE TURNS

I wouldn't worry about files that appear in the \Temp folder. As Steve points out many programs require temporary files in order to function, and some clean up afterwards, and some don't.

Just do routine cleans of all files and folders in the \Temp folder.

I would not say that I am really worried about the files because I do know that they are marked as and are only temporary.

Except certain DFxxxx.tmp which appear to be in use ( and locked ) as long as MS AntiSpware is loaded.

But I just think it is nice to know from whence they came. Like the eud6.htm

I do not recall the exact file names or program, but awhile back I had few others that would not delete. That was also due to the fact that a certain ( printing I believe but not sure ) program was loaded.

But also as I mentioned before. This is just a new page in my book of learning.

And has also taken away some ( a lot ) of my guesswork.

BUT !! A couple of times my inquiring mind ( fingers ) have gotten my U NO WHAT in a jam too. Thank you MS for System Restore.

The more I looked at the files I showed here I realized it was just a plain outright ERROR message. ( I think )

After getting a dozen other jobs ( not PC related ) done I tried the scanner. Did not work properly. I could tell it to send a print to the Printer but that was it. I could not scan a document

I kept getting an " ERROR IN SCRIPT "

So. Having the FIRST real honst to goodness chance to see how well it REALLY works I did a System Restore from two days ago. I did not use yesterdays because I added some software ( Printing ) that I did not really care for and might have been part of the problem. But who knows. Gotta wait and see.

Scanner now works fine. ( the last I checked anyway )

One difference ( that I just realized ) the scans are now being sent to where the old ones were. They are now going to H:\Pictures where the rest of the older ones are.

I think I should wait a while but it might be a good idea to get rid of the RPs that was made this AM BEFORE I got things fixed.

Gotta get ready to go shopping. FOR FOOD.

    BillyBob

    PS.
I also found that ALL of the scanning ( especially to the Printer ) is done thorugh the C:\Windows\Temp folder. It was LOADED.

Compare what you think was an error with Admin Tools/Event Viewer/Application Log

    Hi TonyT

I did check and I saw nothing that seemed to relate.

But it is too late now as I did a System Restore from two days ago. But if and when it should happen again I will examine the Event Log a bit better.

But one thing I did find. And that was a book leaning against the buttons on the scanner. Also I found the USB plug at the Scanner was a bit loose.

So. As of this moment all seems to be OK and working as it should.

Best guess after Googling - Eudora 6 - do you use that for email?

Yes I do. I have checked the mail a couple of times today but NO file.

It may well be one of those that seems to only appear under circumstances.

So I will need to watch as I do different things and see when it appears.

The the eudx.htm is deffinetly Associated with Eudora.

    I just checked the mail then checked C:\windows\temp and there were 3 eudx.htm ( 1 - 3 ) files.

I deleted two of the unwanted mails and there was only 1 left.

Now I need to check and see if they are realy created when checking the mail with Eudora itself. Because right now I check first with Mailwasher And delete any undesired mail right there.

    Thanks PeteC.
